At a time when brands have been working in recent months to revolutionize and readapt models that have marked a before and after in their history, it is time to celebrate the milestones. At Renault they know what they are doing and now have redesigned the legendary Renault 5, a model that between 1972 and 1984 managed to sell more than five million. Now, to celebrate half a century of life, the French brand presents a very complete program of events and activities for all users.
Between this type of work and exclusives, a new collaboration has been announced. In it, Renault has joined Pierre Gonalons. The result of the exchanges between Pierre Gonalons and the team specialized in colors and materials of the Design Department of Renault is the Renault 5 Diamant show-car. An electric car that shows the designer’s vision for the car of the future, merging the codes of the car with those of interior design.
To design this model, Gonalons was inspired by decorative arts and in particular with high jewelry. Renault 5 Diamant retains characteristic lines and iconic shape of the original model that rolled off the Renault production line in 1972. However, under that familiar silhouette there has been a profound transformation. In its motorization, it has an electric motor, being the main example of its modernization.
Externally, its line has been stylized, and therefore, some components have been deliberately removed and have been magnified both in form and in finish.. Headlights and lights are designed as precious stones and the wide wheels, inherited from the Alpine version, have been smoothed and carry in their center the famous sun of Pierre Gonalons.
A pure interior
Thanks to the experience of the design team and that of Pierre Gonalons, it was possible to simplify the model by leaving it with the purely essential. The door handles and windows, as well as the gear lever, are made from an unfinished sphere, treated with very Parisian references in pale golden brass, stainless materials and very durable. Renault 5 Diamant also brings technology. First of all, it is 100% electric and incorporates a fingerprint reader to unlock the doors. As an electric vehicle, Renault 5 Diamant has a gear lever with three positions (forward, neutral and reverse).
