Opel’s Design Director, Karim Giordimaina has assured that it is the confirmation of the exhaustive work they do in the brand with each of their launches: “The little sharks hidden in the new Opel Astra and Opel Astra Sports Tourer show our designers’ love for the smallest details. Our customers can feel this passion, while Opel sharks have become cult. This also demonstrates the accessibility of the Opel brand.”
The shark story was born by the son of Dietmar Finger, who was the designer working on the new Corsa in 2004. That idea fascinated Niels Loeb. The glove compartment shark went into series production and the “Opel shark story” began. Then came the Zafira, where Karim Giordimaina, then responsible for its interior design, he hid three sharks in the cockpit of the compact minivan. The exact location always remains secret, even from senior design officials. Therefore, the sharks remain hidden until launch, which makes it an interesting quest for shark lovers both inside and outside the company.
