We’ve heard a lot about BMW’s 50th anniversary in 2022, but arch-rival AMG wants us to know that he turns 55 and has created the Mercedes-AMG G 63 “Edition 55” to kick off the party. The aesthetic part of the car
Available in Europe only for now and technically, an optional $17,850 package available on the muscular G 63 SUV (which costs $156,450 in the United States) the Edition 55 is available in metallic obsidian black or glossy opaline white paint G manufaktur and comes with a ton of visual advantages, including 22-inch cross-spoke forged wheels with a matt tantalum grey paint finish and a polished rim to high brightness.
The AMG Night I and II packages, which include high-gloss black trim on parts such as the radiator grille, turn signals, and front and rear lights, and a silver chrome fuel filler cap with the AMG name are also part of the exterior package. If we perceive it from its front we will see that it is a striking car, with aggressive airs and everything that surrounds a rustic type vehicle.
Highlights from the outside
On the sides of the car we have a step to enter the cabin, door locks in black, as well as the mirror housings. There are black lines running along the lower part of the doors. The mechanical capabilities of the car
And that’s as far as the changes go. Under the hood is the standard G 63, meaning a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine that develops 577 horsepower (585 PS) and 627 lb-ft (850 Nm) of torque, all of which is distributed to both axles through a very advanced automatic speed transmission. Three differential locks are available in the unlikely event that you want to bring your $177,000 SUV into the wild, while the double-wishbone suspension and adaptive dampers should prevent that from happening unless you really want to.
The final details of the car
Mercedes-AMG hints that the G 63’s Edition 55 package is just the first of several anniversary specials we’ll see in the coming months as the company celebrates the founding in 1967 of the independent tuning and racing team it took full control of in 2005, just like BMW. He has recently done so with Alpina.
