Sedans may be losing ground in Europe and North America, but they are still very popular with Chinese buyers. To meet demand, Chery is preparing to expand its sedan range with the new Arrizo 8, a competitor to the Toyota Camry, Honda Accord and Kia K5. This vehicle is designed to position itself among the most popular in Asia, especially when presenting certain details that remind us of an acquaintance within the segment such as Toyota.
The name and size of the Arrizo 8 suggest it will sit above the smaller Arrizo 5 Plus and Arrizo 5 Pro sedans. The model was scheduled to be unveiled at the postponed Beijing Motor Show, but Chery has already posted the first official photos of the car online.
Your outward appearance
The design is typical of a modern ICE-powered sedan with a large grille, full-width LED lighting units at both ends, chrome accents, and a sloping roofline. The rear is somewhat reminiscent of the Toyota Camry, but tries to stand out with a set of quadruple exhaust pipes. We don’t know if the exhaust outlets are functional or just to show, but in the official representations, there is also another version of the car that features double exhaust pipes.
From the front you could see the intention of this model, which is shown as an elegant car, with executive airs, comfortable, and worthy of any high businessman. The hood of the car is long, with descending lines towards the grille and LED optics, which are divided into day and night. The grille of this car will not go unnoticed, it is hexagonal and has three-dimensional details. The manufacturer’s slogan is displayed right in the center. On the sides of the bumper we have air inlets to the engine, which are complemented by the central entrance in the lowest area of the bumper.
On the sides of the car we have silver alloy wheels or wheels with discs and calipers on each of its wheels. The door locks are the same body color. The mirror housings are combined with chrome details. The edges of the windows come in chrome.
Behind the car we have a radio antenna on the roof in the form of a shark fin, brake or stop lights in LED, four exhaust outlets and an auxiliary light in the central lower area.
Inside the cabin
Inside, the Chery Arrizo 8 has a clean dashboard that follows the latest trends. The standalone digital cockpit has dual 12.3-inch screens, the climate vents are visually connected, the flat bottom steering wheel has a two-tone appearance, and the center tunnel is mounted high. The upholstery looks more premium than on older Chery models, combining leather, wood and metal. The design of the door card closely resembles that of the Lexus LC. We don’t have any information on the ADAS equipment, but the sedan could borrow some items from chery’s parts container.
Mechanical qualities
According to Car News China, the engine lineup will include a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine that produces 194 horsepower (145 kW/197 PS) and 290 Nm (214 lb-ft) of torque, and a more powerful 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with 250 horsepower (187 kW/254 PS) and 390 Nm (288 lb-ft) of torque. In both cases, power will be sent to the front axle via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
The Chery Arrizo 8 is expected to arrive at Chinese dealerships in the third quarter of 2022. Prices have yet to be revealed, but local media report that it will likely start at 140,000 yen, which translates to around $22,000.
