Ford has released full specifications for the state-of-the-art Ranger in Australia, shortly after the flagship Raptor variant was also introduced for the local market. It is a more advanced version, with all the essentials to be among the most requested vans on the market.
Mechanical specifications
In Australia, the entry-level engine on offer for the 2023 Ranger takes the form of a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel. This mill produces 125 kW or what would be equal to about 167 horsepower and 405 Nm of torque and is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. Those looking for a little more power will be able to upgrade to a 2.0-liter twin-turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine with 154 kW or what would be similar to about 206 horsepower and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission.
To top off the diesel range is a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 with a nominal power of 184 kW or about 247 horsepower and 600 Nm of torque and also mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. Unlike the 2.0-liter engines, the 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 adds an automatic start/stop function. Sitting at the top of the engine range is the 3.0-liter ecoBoost V6 biturbo of the aforementioned Ranger Raptor, which produces an impressive 292 kW or what would be similar to about 392 horses and 583 Nm of torque.
Versions for Australia
Australians will be offered the 2023 Ranger in XL, XLS, XLT, Sport, Wildtrak and Raptor versions. All variants except the Raptor have a towing capacity of 3500 kg (7716 lb) with a tow ball weight limit of 350 kg (771 lb). An additional aid on the trailer is an integrated trailer brake controller, a trailer connection checklist, and a tow light check. While most variants have full-time all-wheel drive as standard, the XL, XLS and XLT can be ordered with rear-wheel drive.
It’s important to note that customers expressed to the company that one of the reasons they love the Ranger is because it’s one of the best vehicles on the road for its driving comfort and car-like performance. So retaining that and balancing it with off-road performance has been key during the development of the next-generation Ranger.
The external aspects
While Ford has released full details and specifications for the new Ranger in Australia, it has yet to announce pricing information. No details about the American model have been announced either. However, from its front you can see that it is still one of the most striking cars of the moment since it has aggressive features, at the same time imposing. The hood is wide, with lines on the sides that pair with LED daytime running lights and powerful headlights for dark areas. The grille of the car is oversized and comes in black with the manufacturer’s slogan right in the center. On the sides of the bumper we have fog lights embedded in black plastic pieces. There is a silver piece in the center of the bumper.
On the sides we have alloy wheels or wheels that are combined with silver and black. This van has a step to enter the cabin. The door locks are the same body color, while the mirror housings are black.
The rear shows decorative tubes, brake or stop lights in LED, black lock, slogan of the manufacturer in the center of the gate towards the load, steps on the sides among other details.
